The Results of the #LesbianOscars are in!

The Ultimate Planet Awards have been announced and the community is celebrating!

The nomination period took place during October & November and nearly 200 women nominated 951 women, events and venues in 40 categories.

The public voting period was open between 6 December 2015 and 31 January 2016.

3,997 LBQ women and allies cast 47,523 votes across 40 categories in the arts, media, scene and community.

Winners were announced at an exciting awards ceremony on Sunday 20th March at Catford Broadway Theatre in London.

Naomi Bennett-Hall, Co-Founder of Ultimate Planet, said,

Over the last five years, the social scene for lesbian and bi women has changed and evolved, and is stronger and more diverse than ever, as is the community itself. We are very excited to be able to recognise & celebrate the creativity and passion; blood, sweat and tears it takes to make a thriving social scene and the women and allies behind it all.”

“We have been absolutely overwhelmed by the interaction from the community and its allies during the voting period. The sheer number of votes and the amount of discussion on social media just shows how important these awards are to those in our community. We can’t wait to celebrate with the shortlisted nominees, the winners and lesbian, bi & queer women on Sunday!”

About the Ultimate Planet Community Awards (#PlanetAwards #lesbianoscars)

We created the Ultimate Planet Awards to recognise, thank and promote the hard work from dedicated grass roots event organisers and community businesses who are committed to improving the lesbian, bi and queer scene.

Unlike awards for the LGBT community that have gone before, the Ultimate Planet Awards focus in on the grass roots and community-led events and activities that take place to improve the lives of lesbian and bi women in London.
